Dr Rutger-Jan Nuis is an Interventional cardiologist at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The decision to become Interventional Cardiologist originated from the first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) performed in the Netherlands in 2005 which coincided with his start of Medical School in Rotterdam.

Throughout clinical training he actively participated in the transcatheter research field in the Netherlands, United States and South America. Between 2019 and 2021 he completed a two-year Interventional Cardiology Fellowship in the Thoraxcenter under mentorship of Prof. Nicolas van Mieghem.

Dr Rutger-Jan Nuis is currently involved in transcatheter aortic, mitral and tricuspid interventions, with a scientific focus on valve-in-valve TAVI (the BASELINE trial) and quality of life improvement using iron-therapies (the IRON-TAVI trial).
