Prof. Dr. med Philipp C. Lurz, MD, PhD received his medical degree and medical doctor from the University of Leipzig, Germany. From 2006 to June 2009, he was a research fellow at the University College of London and the Institute of Child Health and received his PhD from University College London in 2012.
At present, he is the deputy head of the Cardiology Department at Heart Center Leipzig at the University of Leipzig, Germany. He is a board-certified specialist in grown up congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology, heart failure, hypertension and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (competence level III). He is also the lead of the structural heart and heart failure intervention program at Heart Center Leipzig and the global principal investigator for numerous innovative device trials in the field of interventional cardiology.
Prof. Lurz’s work, which spans translational approaches, clinical physiological studies combing multimodal non-invasive and invasive modalities, human clinical trials, and population-based epidemiology studies, has improved and detailed the understanding of cardiovascular conditions.
He recently has also established the use of machine learning for novel classification of and risk prediction in cardiovascular diseases. His work has been cited over 10.000 times. He has published 204 peer reviewed scientific publications, 158 original manuscripts, 12 book chapters (h-index 57, google scholar). He also received 13 international and national research awards
